Life Update: Finding Comfort in Christ

When I returned from my summer mission in Milwaukee in the beginning of August, I was worried. I’d spent the two months surrounded with people who were on fire for the Lord, and home for me was the opposite of that. I’m the only believer in my immediate family and my friends from home don’t have an interest in knowing the Lord. Also, everyone around me was busy with work and school.

I ended up spending most of the last month and a half before school started by myself. I needed to find healthy ways to entertain myself, so I started to try out some new hobbies. I really quickly found a knack for weaving friendship bracelets (I made 6 or 7 within 48 hours.) and calligraphy (though that is still a work in progress). Most of all though, I spent a lot of time with the Lord. I read through Romans this summer and learned so much about the Gospel and what it means for all of us.

Right as school was about to start back up, I found out that Cru on my campus would look a lot different in the upcoming school year. There would only be one Bible study a week for students to go to. Having one Bible study meant that I would not be leading with Cru as I went back to school. I also would be transitioning to a new church because I no longer had a ride to my church.

Not leading with Cru has again left me with a lot of spare time. This time around, I read, a lot. Fictional books, Christian books, basically anything I could. I also got into a good quiet time routine of reading my Bible every night before praying. I would wake up most mornings and play worship music right away.

Then, I got some bad news. A woman who has been mentoring and discipling me for roughly a year is doing what God has called her to do, which means leaving the school. I had mixed emotions when I found out. I was happy because she is stepping out in faith and trusting the Lord, but also distraught because she was one of the first people to SEE me.

This past weekend, my dad’s appendix burst. He has been in the hospital for two nights and will be for a few more. I have been alone in the house watching our dogs. With all of the time I have been spending alone in the last few days, I have spent a lot of time in the Word.

Throughout all the changes and struggles of this season of life, I have been constantly reminded of the goodness of God as I spend more time with him. Specifically, I have been meditating on Romans 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Cru End of the Year Banquet

Leading with Cru this year has been so rewarding and life giving! Last night, we celebrated the end of a great year and said goodbye to staff and students moving on to their next life stages.

I actually spent most of the day rushing around trying to find something to wear and then buying funny craft projects to do later that night with my friend. So, I ended up arriving at the same time as my friends – fashionably late.

While waiting for others students to arrive, a group of us got together to take pictures. And these are some of my favorites.

These are just a few of the people who made serving in Cru this year so fun! I just know that God placed us all in each others lives for this exact season because we all needed it.

The three of us girls also snagged a couple of bathroom selfies. My girl friends are some of the prettiest, most kindhearted people I know.

Overall, the end of the year banquet was one of the most fun times we got to have during the year! I love what God has done through Cru on my campus, and can’t wait to see what He has in store for us next year!

New Year, New Me

The start of a new year always brings change. This year does not disappoint. With the start of the new year, I have decided to revamp SLG and its topics. One of my goals for the year is to read at least one book a week and at some point in the last week, I decided that I would start to post reviews for the books I am reading every week. In addition, I have recently become addicted to fashion blogs, so I want to start posting more about my fashion and beauty interests. To wrap up, I will be traveling a bit this year and in the future, which means you can expect travel updates and posts.

Year in Review

Personally, this year has been filled with many life-altering events. At the start of the year, I was nervous, to say the least. I hadn’t a clue what direction my life would go in after finishing high school, and while now I have a more in-depth answer to the question “what do you want to do with your life?” I also know that I am allowed to change my mind as I please.

I have made numerous friends and solidified old friendships; however, I have also become very fond of spending time with myself. In my spare time, I have thought and developed my own feeling and opinions. I’ve also surrounded myself with music and television that interests me and causes me to think deeply.

I am thankful for the growth that this year has brought me. Here’s to next year and the hopes that it brings strength and growth as well.

Fall into Something New

Fall is officially here. It's the season of pumpkin spice everything and scary movie marathons. To celebrate the start of fall, I have decided to make posting on SLG more of a priority. From this day on, I am going to try to write weekly posts. The key word in the previous sentence is try, school has just started for me and sorority rush is coming up soon, so I am bound to be very busy. Also, I am going to try to write monthly updates about everything college. Hope to write soon!

Move in Day

Today marks the official first day of my adult life. I moved out of my parents house and into the dorms at my school. After hardly sleeping for most of the night, I woke up early this morning and started to load last minute stuff into my parents cars. There was a lot of tears (mostly from leaving my dogs) but it hasn’t been a horrible day. I moved everything in within an hour and went out for brunch with my family. In fact, my dad just left fifteen minutes ago. I’m sure the silence is bound to set in soon, but for now I’m going to watch some Grey’s Anatomy while I wait for my RA to host our floor meeting.
